Assembly time is a real cost
If one person assembles and fills a box, the seconds matter. A straight tuck-end carton takes a few seconds. A crash-lock base pops open and locks in one movement. A rigid box needs no assembly but arrives bulky.
At 100 units the difference is irrelevant. At 5,000 units a five-second penalty is seven hours of labor, which usually exceeds whatever the cheaper structure saved. If you are hand-filling at any volume, ask for a crash-lock base and time yourself assembling a sample before you commit to the run.
Flat-packed storage, and the space it really needs
Folding cartons arrive flat and creased, stacked in bundles. A thousand flat perfume cartons occupy roughly the volume of a couple of banker’s boxes. The same thousand assembled would fill a small room.
Store them flat, off the floor, away from radiators and out of direct sun. Board is hygroscopic: it takes up moisture from damp air, which softens creases and makes assembly sloppy, and it dries out in overheated storage, which makes creases crack when folded. A stable, dry room is all that is required, and it is worth checking before a large delivery arrives.
Printed, plain or partly printed
Not every empty box needs full artwork. Three routes are common, and the right one depends on how many SKUs you run.
A fully printed carton per fragrance looks best and costs most in plates. A plain box plus a printed label lets one box serve many scents, which suits small-batch and artisan brands. A partly printed box — brand furniture printed, product name left blank for a sticker — sits between the two and is usually the best economics for a brand running six or more fragrances at modest volumes.
