Multi-bay inserts are the hard part
A single-bottle carton has one job. A collection box has to hold three or five items of different heights and diameters, keep them from touching each other, and present them all at the same moment when the lid comes off.
Vacuum-formed plastic trays do this cheaply and are increasingly rejected on environmental grounds. Die-cut paperboard platforms achieve the same immobilization with a recyclable material, but they need more design work and they need real bottle samples to develop against. Peak season is a production constraint, not a marketing one
Gift packaging demand concentrates into a few weeks. Everyone in the supply chain knows this, which means board mills, laminators and finishers are all at capacity in September and October for the same reason you are.
The practical implication is unglamorous: order gift packaging two months earlier than feels necessary. A job that takes eight business days in March can take three weeks in October, and the constraint is rarely printing — it is finishing and ribbon supply. Our handling time of 2 to 3 business days holds year-round because we plan capacity against it, but courier networks slow regardless.
Closures that read as a gift
The closure is what tells a buyer the box is a present rather than a shipper. Magnetic flaps give the satisfying snap; ribbon pulls give a deliberate, slower reveal; a simple tuck with a printed seal costs almost nothing and still reads as considered.
Magnets are the most requested and the most often mis-specified. They need a recess in the board and enough lever arm to hold a heavy lid, and if the box is oversized the magnet holds while the panel bows. On wide gift boxes we use two smaller magnets rather than one strong pair, which keeps the lid flat across its span.
Floral and presentation formats
Boxes that combine a fragrance with preserved flowers have their own constraints. The floral bed has to be built into a bay that does not crush during transit, and the box usually needs a small amount of ventilation so preserved stems do not sweat against a laminated interior.
These are made-to-order structures rather than stock items, and they are the format most improved by a physical sample before the run. The floral presentation perfume boxes we build are usually developed over two sample rounds, which is worth budgeting time for.
