Board carries a natural moisture content, and Phoenix air removes it. Over-dried board goes brittle: creases crack instead of folding, corners chip, and laminate can lift at the edges after weeks in an uncooled space.

Storage solves most of it. Keep flat stock out of direct sun, away from anything blowing hot dry air, and inside a conditioned space if one is available. For genuinely harsh storage we can specify a board that retains moisture better and a coating that slows the loss.

Local brands work heavily in sand, clay, sage and terracotta. Those mid-tone naturals are the colors most affected by finish choice, because lamination moves them more than it moves either extreme of the tonal range.

Matte lifts and flattens them, which usually matches the intent. Gloss pushes them toward mud. Uncoated board with no film at all often reads best and costs least. Ask for the proof on uncoated stock before assuming a laminate is needed.
