A rigid box is built on grayboard between 1200 and 1500 micron and wrapped in printed paper. The weight is what the customer registers first, before they have looked at anything, and it is the single largest contributor to a box feeling expensive.

The wrap quality is the second. Where the turn-in at the edges is even and the corners are mitered cleanly, the box reads as made rather than assembled. That is a manufacturing tolerance, and it is what our rigid luxury builds are quoted against.

Amenity packaging for a resort is a repeat order, and repeat orders live or die on color consistency. A property will place this quarter’s boxes next to last quarter’s, and a process-color drift that nobody would notice in isolation is obvious side by side.

Specify a Pantone spot ink for any brand color that recurs. It is mixed to a formula and printed from its own unit, so it lands identically every run. The extra plate cost is recovered the first time a reorder matches without a conversation.

Foil and soft-touch are the two finishes most requested here and the two most affected by desert heat. Foil laid directly over soft-touch film lifts at the edges after weeks in a hot stockroom, because the film has too little surface energy to hold it.

The fix is an unlaminated keyline under any foiled area, and it has to exist in the artwork before we make plates. We flag it on the proof, but it is much easier if the file is built that way from the start.
